Supermarket Owner

From A Destroyed Organic Farming Enterprise to a Bustling Supermarket

Michael was one of 400+ successful farming enterprises in Gush Katif growing organic cherries, cucumbers and tomatoes on 25 dunams of land.

The Disengagement wiped all this out. Michael returned with his family to Moshav Eitan in the south (where he originally lived before Gush Katif) and spent the first six months afterwards without work. Twice, he attempted two ventures; both of which failed. This man who was used to working long hours and being productive now had no reason to get up in the morning.

After a careful evaluation of Michael’s knowledge and skills and the local marketplace, JobKatif agreed that there was potential for Michael to revamp and re-open the local supermarket.

“I am happily surprised,” Michael comments now two years later. “I have been able, with the help of the JobKatif counselors, to increase our monthly turnover here three-fold. I’ve expanded and renovated the store, and offer more services. I am taking home a comfortable income and am able to once again feel productive. I’m even thinking about expanding further, of course, always staying in close touch with the JobKatif counselors.”

The future does seem better, at long last.
