Ethiopian Nurses Training Program

This is the first pilot program to train young Ethiopian women to become registered nurses.  An initiative of Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon, it was officially launched in 2012.  Today, there are 11 women currently enrolled in four nursing schools throughout the country. The program runs for three years, and offers:

* a 3-week instrumental enrichment course given by the Feuerstein Institute which teaches different learning strategies for academic success

* one-on-one tutors

* supplementary classes

* ongoing contact with Program Coordinator to provide emotional support and timely intervention

* a living stipend based on individual need

* tuition scholarships

Based on the pilot program’s success, we will be enrolling increasingly larger number of participants in the coming years.

We’ve named the program “you are our sister” “אחותנו את.”  In Hebrew the word for nurse and sister is אחות. The name is inspired by the book of Genesis, Chapter 24; 60:  “Our sister, may you become thousands and myriads of thousands…”  אחותנו את היי לאלפי רבבה.
